An earthquake measuring a 4.1 magnitude on the Richter scale was registered the northern Bulgarian Black Sea town of Shabla late last night.
The quake was felt strongly in Shabla and lightly in municipalities of the Dobrich region and several communities in the Varna region.
According to the European Seismology Centre and the Geophysics Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, BAS, the earthquake’s epicentre was located 65 KM from Varna, 22 KM from Kavarna and 6 KM from Shabla.
The epicentre was at a depth of 20 KM and was registered at 10.49pm local time.
Currently there are no reports of injuries and material damage from the quake.
The Shabla mayor was quoted as saying that residents were frightened and went out on the streets after the tremors but people are safe.
Prior to last night’s quake, the last earthquake in Bulgria was in the summer of 2009 when a 5-point magnitude quake was registered.
