CAIRO: An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale struck Egypt early Thursday, and was felt in Cairo, Youm7 reported.
The tremor took place at 3:44 a.m. local time in the Mediterranean governorate of Marsa Matrouh, the head of the National Institute for Astronomical Research Abu el-Ela Amin told Youm7.
It was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers below the land, and was centered 170 kilometers to the south west of Alexandria and 142 kilometers south east of Matrouh.
Citizens in Cairo, Alexandria along with Marsa Matrouh felt the earthquake.
Amin added that the tremor left no injuries, casualties or any damages.
In June, a 5.2 magnitude earthquake hit Cairo and other govenorates. The tremor was reportedly felt across Jordan, Gaza, Israel and northern Saudi Arabia, as the epicenter was said to be the Gulf of Aqaba.
