7.1 Earthquake Hits Off New Zealand - Tsunami Warning IssuedA major earthquake of magnitude 7.2 has struck off the coast of New Zealand, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

New Zealand’s Civil Defence have advised residents that there is a tsunami warning.

The quake hit 105 miles (169 km) northeast of Gisborne, New Zealand, the USGS said.

That placed it off the NE coast of the northern island of the country.

The quake struck at a depth of 19.1 miles (30 km).

New Zealand’s Civil Defence has also been offering advice to citizens on the east coast on Twitter.
