4.5 Earthquake Hits Solomon Islands – No Tsunami

THERE was no immediate tsunami threat to the Solomon Islands following an undersea tremor on Monday afternoon.

The underwater earthquake occurred around 12pm, near latitude 10.8 degrees South and Longitude 166.2 degrees East, at approximately 10 kilometers Southeast of Santa Cruz Island in the Temotu Province.

It was measured at a magnitude 4.5 on the Richter Magnitude Scale.

Following the tremor, there was a “no tsunami threat to the Solomon Islands” statement issued by the Solomon Islands Meteorological Service.
