TOKYO: A 5.6-magnitude earthquake hit Japan’s main island of Honshu about 175 kilometres (110 miles) north of Tokyo Wednesday but there were no immediate reports of injuries. No tsunami warning was issued.
The quake hit at a depth of 10 kilometres (six miles) according to the US Geological Survey, causing relatively strong jolts, at 4:59 pm (0759 GMT) in Fukushima prefecture.
Around 20 per cent of the world’s most powerful earthquakes strike Japan, which has developed one of the most sophisticated tsunami warning systems.
