Global warming to increase Arizona temps by 8.5 degrees

Days like Thursday, the temperature could be 120 degrees in Phoenix instead of the current 111, according to a long-range global warming study by the Nature Conservancy.

The environmental group says climate change and global warming scenarios could increase annual temperatures in Arizona by between 6 and 8.5 degrees.

The Nature Conservancy is pushing for regulations and charges on the auto and manufacturing sectors to help reduce vehicle emissions.

The study pegs Kansas as having the highest potential temperature increase — 10.4 degrees. Hawaii is seen as having the lowest possible increase — 2.8 degrees.
The environmental group also says climate change could cause severe droughts in the Southwest and threaten water supplies.
