Three Earthquakes rock India

Guwahati, July 27 (IBNS): Three earthquakes of slight intensity rocked parts of North East India since Monday midnight, triggering panic among people of the region.

The first tremor occurred at 12.43 am and, epicentred at Barpeta in Assam, it shook parts of the state and neighbouring Meghalaya, the Indian Meteorological department sources informed.

It measured 4.1 on the Richter scale.

The second tremor was felt at 7.52 am, while the third quake occurred at 8.16 am.

Both were epicentred near Shillong in Meghalaya and while the second tremor measured 3.4 on the Richter scale, the third measured 2.4.

No loss of life or property has been reported yet.

North East falls under zone five of highly seismic zones.
