Hundred of Anyer villagers panicked after three big explosions were heard from Mount Anak Krakatau on early Sunday morning.
‘We are quite sure that the explosions came from Anak Krakatau. I heard those terrible sounds myself,” Cikoneng resident Mumut, said as quoted by Antara news agency.
Another witness, Sarmidi, said the sound of explosions were very clear. “We were afraid that a tsunami might follow.”
The fisherman from Paku Anyer said he wanted to return to Central Java but had no work in his home village.
Anto Pambudi, head of the post watching Mt. Anak Krakatau in Pasauran, Banten, said that the alert status for the volcano had been raised from normal to caution.
“We received information that the number of earthquakes increased to 933 on Friday. This is harmless as long as the villagers still stay at least two kilometers away,” Anton said.
