Two Strong Quakes hit Tonga

A second strong earthquake in 24 hours has shaken Tonga.

A strong earthquake measuring 5.9-magnitude struck off the coast early Sunday, hours after another shallow tremor was reported.

There were no immediate reports of damage from the second quake which hit at a depth of 12 kilometres around 180 kilometres east of the capital Nuku’Alofa.

The first moderate 5.8-magnitude quake struck 155 kilometres east-northeast of Nuku’Alofa.
